Well that wasn't so bad! So yesterday and today was supposed to be the scariest and most nerve wracking part of our journey. According to Google Maps, there were no gas stations for 330 miles and our gas tank only holds about 300 miles worth of diesel...you do the math. So we bought a gas can and prepared for that extra 30 miles we needed. I noticed people filling several cans at the "last stop" so I thought wow, this will be interesting.
Fortunately, there were a couple gas stations along the way that were still open, so we did not have to use our gas can. In fact, there were gas pumps at the place we stayed at last night. On that note, Wi-Fi and cell service was non-existent on this road.
Today, we found one place along the way, Jade City, that offered free Wi-Fi and coffee and we thought that was awesome. We were able to let the boys run around while we let family know where we were and post photos and such. It was so funny, while the boys are getting a little too excited in the store, and we were getting on to them, the lady in the store said, "They are so well behaved, especially compared to some of the kids that come through here." Well that made my day, maybe they aren't heathens after all.
Part of the drive today was through some windy roads. Eric was super nervous about the drive, but I think it ended up being no big deal. We learned the importance of the travel log from our Milepost though. It had everything logged listed...the long windy roads, what to look for and some history about each area. It was absolutely worth the money. This was life saver, especially without google maps on our phones.
We ended the day today in Nugget City, Yukon. I decided to cheat on dinner, after the long day and eat at the restaurant at the campground we were staying at...never again...it was a disappointment. It seemed more like cafeteria food for $20 a plate. What made matters worse where the boys refusing the eat the spaghetti that they asked for and the guy called "the best spaghetti you ever tasted." Perhaps he didn't know I had an Italian grandfather and he made the best spaghetti in the world. That $20 plate of spaghetti will be lunch tomorrow.
I will say, the view at this place is amazing. This is the view from our camping spot, with the mountains. Absolutely beautiful. We love the mountains and have enjoyed seeing all the amazing views these last couple of days.
