What at weekend!
Eric and I both had the privilege to participate in this years annual Clam Scramble. What is that you may ask? A 5K obstacle course. Oh what fun. It started on the beach next to Deep Creek in Ninilchik and ends on a bluff in Ninilchik View Campground. It was a blast. The course started with us running and jumping over loose logs on a sand and pebble covered beach. Then we crossed deep creek....of course it had been raining the day before, so it was higher than anticipated and the current was strong so you had a cross with care. Thankfully the Ninilchik Emergency Response team was there and had a rope to hold onto on the roughest part. The other problem is that water was COLD!!! My feet where numb once I waded out of that water. The next mile or so was just a simple run on a sand and pebble covered beach...haha...which led to the next obstacle which was carrying a 5 gallon bucket of sand around a pole and back and moving on up the beach. Further up around mile marker 2 was the mud crawl and a jog through some puddles of water around a rock and out towards the second river crossing, this time the Ninilchik River. This crossing was not as bad as the first, but still left my feet cold and a bit numb. After that, you ran up the beach, to a service road...Finally a hard surface! The service road went up through the fishing village and back down toward the beach and finally to the stairs leading up the the bluff and to the finish line. I did not jog as much as I wanted to and ended up walking alot, especially with the wet numb feet. I finished the course in 54 minutes with a smile. Eric said he didn't think I could do it and I thought watch me! Maybe next year I will work my way up to it by having some jogs on the beach....we will see.
Eric didn't get to run, not that he wanted to. He was spared by being volunteered to be the Grand Marshall (Lucky Dog). Which entailed him giving instructions to the runners, starting the race, and calling out numbers as runners crossed the finish line (delivering jokes here and there, and then announcing winners. He said he was slightly disappointed he did not race...but he probably would have complained the whole way. It is truly amazing how God keeps opening up doors for Eric to be involved and seen in the community. We are truly blessed to be here.
God is good!
